Mauritius: A Stellar Rise of a Textile & Apparel Industry in Africa

Registration is closed for this event
Hosted by USFIA and EDB Mauritius

Mauritius located off the East Coast of Africa and sitting in a “golden triangle” connecting Asia, Australia and Africa, has for decades enjoyed a coveted spot among preferred-sourcing destinations and continues to strengthen its position as a strategic ease-of-doing-business hub in the African region. The Mauritius Textile and Apparel industry has come a long way from its infancy stage in the 1960s to a mature industry today with a vertically integrated textile supply chain, offering a complete production process from fiber to yarn making, fabrics and clothing.

With a call for sustainable sourcing that is more conscious, fair and circular, the Mauritius Textile and Apparel industry has skilfully offset share-of-market erosion from global shift in volume to low-cost countries by transitioning to a sustainable supply chain model.  Today, Mauritius perseveres as a competitive sourcing destination on a value basis, addressing the needs for design-to-value products.

Topics to be covered:

  • Insights of the Textile and Apparel Industry of Mauritius.
  • A duty-free gateway to USA.
  • The emergence of eco-design products.
  • Sustainable sourcing.
  • Trade and Investment opportunities in the sector.

Speaker:

Mr. Geerish Bucktowonsing, Director of Industry, Economic Development Board Mauritius
