From USA-ITA OFF THE CUFF for November 13, 2012

As you likely know, last week’s hurricane devastated parts of New York and New Jersey along the East Coast. While progress has been made in the clean-up efforts, there is still much more work to be done, especially in New Jersey, where many USA-ITA and AISA members live and work and remain without power or other services. Out of respect for these individuals and the overall clean-up efforts in the Tri-State Area, we have postponed our conference and surrounding events until January 2013.

The schedule for January will be as follows:

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

12:00 PM EST to 3:00 PM EST (9:00 AM PST to 12:00 PM PST)

Seminar/Webcast on Retailing in China: Successfully Navigating China Customs & CIQ Requirements

PwC, 300 Madison Avenue, New York, NY

Damon Paling, Partner at PwC Shanghai, will cover topics including crossing the Chinese Customs border, CIQ, import models, efficiency, and more. Mr. Paling consults for many retailers and brands in our sector on Customs and trade advocacy, so he will provide excellent insight on the in-country requirements and how to successfully meet the challenges of Chinese Customs and CIQ requirements. The seminar will include ample time for in-depth discussion, and lunch will be provided. We will also webcast the entire event if you can't make it to New York, as this event is not to be missed if you're retailing in China, or planning to! This event is free for USA-ITA members, PwC clients, and registered conference attendees.

As internet sales and overseas consumers become increasingly important for brands, retail and apparel companies are becoming increasingly aware of the need for a comprehensive, robust strategy to protect intellectual property. On January 8th, the evening prior to the USA-ITA/AISA Annual Conference, please join Squire Sanders IP experts from the Hong Kong/Shanghai, San Francisco, and New York City offices for a special seminar on brand protection in both the United States and China. The U.S. and China, of course, present different brand protection issues and require different brand protection strategies. The speakers have years of experience helping companies, including fashion houses, adequately protect their trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets in both the U.S. and Asia. You'll learn how established, as well as new-to-market, brands can proactively protect themselves from trademark counterfeiting. This seminar will be followed by a pre-conference networking reception, which will provide an opportunity for you to meet-and-greet with USA-ITA leadership and counsel, USA-ITA Board of Directors, and leading brands, retailers, importers, and service providers in the textile and apparel importing community. This event is free for registered conference attendees.
