Today, USFIA joined more than 50 industry associations across the economy in calling on the Biden Administration to pursue a comprehensive U.S. trade policy that enhances economic growth and strengthens national security and to reengage in meaningful trade negotiations with allies and partners to address the rising trade barriers.
In a joint letter to Jacob Sullivan, Director of the National Security Council, and Lael Brainard, Director of the National Economic Council, the organizations request a meeting to discuss how U.S. trade policy can proactively support equitable economic growth, protect innovation, and ensure that American businesses and citizens thrive in the global marketplace.
The industry associations, which represent nearly a dozen sectors, also shared six recommendations for crafting a comprehensive trade policy that:
- Opens foreign markets to U.S. exports,
- Promotes international standards,
- Enables digital trade, and
- Supports the enforcement of existing trade rules.
