Washington, D.C. – Representatives from U.S. Customs & Border Protection, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and brands, retailers, ocean carriers, and critical ports will meet in New York City in November to discuss what the fashion industry can expect in terms of trade and customs policy for 2016 and beyond.

The United States Fashion Industry Association (USFIA) and American Import Shippers Association (AISA) will host the 27th Apparel Importers Trade & Transportation Conference on November 4, 2015, at the Tribeca Rooftop, bringing together several hundred executives working in compliance, logistics, sourcing, supply chain management, government relations, and social responsibility.

“For nearly three decades, this conference has served as an opportunity for fashion and apparel brands, retailers, importers, and service providers across the global value chain to discuss topics like what to expect during peak shipping season, how recent trade policy will impact their operations, and how U.S. Customs is facilitating trade and enforcing the rules,” says Julia K. Hughes, President of USFIA. “This year, we’ll hear fresh perspectives with a lineup of many new, exciting speakers across the industry and discussions on topics that didn’t exist in our vocabulary 27 years ago, such as ethical sourcing, e-commerce, wearable tech, and how new technologies help companies better manage their supply chains,” she adds.

Confirmed speakers include Eric Batt, Director of the U.S. Customs & Border Protection Center of Excellence & Expertise (CEE) for Apparel, Footwear, & Textiles, who took over this role in September, and Joshua Teitelbaum, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Textiles, Consumer Goods, & Materials at the U.S. Department of Commerce, who will discuss the conclusion of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations and next steps.

Additional speakers include executives from Albright Stonebridge Group, Alston & Bird LLP, Amber Road, Cotton Incorporated, OHL, Port of Long Beach, Port of Los Angeles, PVH, PwC, Sourcing Journal, and AISA and USFIA leadership and legal counsel.

Members of the press who would like to cover the event must contact Samantha Sault at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by Friday, October 30. All press must be registered in advance.

The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4th, at the Tribeca Rooftop, 2 Desbrosses Street, New York, NY.

About the United States Fashion Industry Association

The United States Fashion Industry Association (USFIA) represents the fashion industry: textile and apparel brands, retailers, importers, and wholesalers based in the United States and doing business globally. Founded in 1989 as the United States Association of Importers of Textiles & Apparel with the goal of eliminating the global apparel quota system, USFIA now works to eliminate the tariff and non-tariff barriers that impede the industry’s ability to trade freely and create economic opportunities in the United States and abroad. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., USFIA is the most respected voice for the fashion industry in front of the U.S. government as well as international governments and stakeholders.  With constant, two-way communication, USFIA staff and counsel serve as the eyes and ears of our members in Washington and around the world, enabling them to stay ahead of the regulatory challenges of today and tomorrow. Through our publications, educational events, and networking opportunities, USFIA also connects with key stakeholders across the value chain including U.S. and international service providers, and suppliers.
