Financial pressures have forced nearly 40% of surveyed US fashion companies to slash investment in sustainability and product innovation – but report finds commitment to sustainability remains high.
Protectionist US trade policies and related uncertainty – primarily the renewed Trump tariffs – are the most pressing challenge faced by US apparel businesses in 2025, says a new benchmarking study released today by the United States Fashion Industry Association (USFIA).
Nearly 95% of respondents to the survey placed tariffs among their top two concerns, with more than 70% reporting increased sourcing costs, squeezed profit margins, and higher consumer prices as direct outcomes.
